PTV obstacle training – £40/hour plus mileage, up to 4 riders per session
I build a course of 8-10 obstacles in your arena or field to simulate an adventurous hack. Each rider has a few goes at every obstacle with coaching on how to complete them effectively, the emphasis is on a low-pressure, fun clinic that builds confidence and trust within the partnership, and I usually end each session by putting it all together as a course.
For more experienced TREC riders, I can change the angles of approach and set difficult combinations of the obstacles to ensure you can demonstrate maximum control, eg low branches followed by immobility, corridor followed by rein back. In shared sessions riders learn from watching each other negotiate the obstacles, as well as receiving tailored advice for their horse.

Group lessons on the obstacles & control of paces, then in the classroom delegates practice copying a level one route, talk about following landmarks on the map, basic speed checks and using a compass for TREC. If off-road riding is available, riders then go for a practice ride in pairs with maps. If not, we go for a short walk as a group, practise using a compass & point out all the features on the ground that are on the map.
Non-riding participants are welcome to watch the obstacle sessions and join in with the classroom and orienteering practice. This session can be adapted to most locations, but price depends on circumstances if you want me to come to you as there is a degree of prep work involved.
Riding effectively for fun – £25/hour or £15/half hour plus mileage
If you like my kind, enthusiastic, partnership centred training style I now offer flatwork lessons. I focus on how the rider can help the horse to do what they are asking by thinking about what their body is doing vs how the horse is responding, and fix any bad habits.
