TREC Tuesdays are my weekly webinars running from November through to end of April. Participants asked for some challenges for motivation, so here they are – open to everyone, but those who attend the webinars get a discount.

All four courses will be open for you to complete and submit for feedback and/or the league up to 31 March 2024.

You are welcome to submit multiple videos over the time the challenges are open (the fee applies for each video due to the time taken to judge and write up feedback), your best score for each challenge will count for the league at the end.

The league may be split into categories on experience/in hand vs ridden, depending on the final number of entries.

How to enter: email evietrec@gmail.com or send ‘Evie Trec’ a facebook message with the link to your video, I’ll reply with payment information then once you’ve paid I’ll send your scoresheet & feedback within 5 days. Courses are designed with a mixture of ridden and in-hand obstacles, but if you want to do the whole course in hand then you can. Submitting a video is confirming that you’ve read and agreed to the rules below.

Anyone who submits a video for all four challenges will be eligible for the league(s).

The league is optional –  you do not have to enter it if you just want the feedback, just let me know when you send your video.

RULES

– You build and attempt obstacles at your own risk. I strongly recommend planks or heavy wooden poles to avoid the risk of them rolling, and using safe roadworks cones, jump wings with cups removed or barrels for the ‘cone’ challenges.
– You can film in any safe, enclosed location – it doesn’t have to be a surfaced arena but it must be secure with no loose animals or children wandering around.
– You must wear a hard hat to current TREC GB approved standards, and safe footwear.
– Tack is up to you, with restrictions as per TREC GB – no fixed reins, spurs must be rounded and no more than 3cm long, whips no longer than 75cm.
– All obstacles are optional, if you want to miss one out just stop at that bit of the course and tell the camera.
– Judging will be in accordance with the rules of TREC GB and the spirit of TREC!
– You will lose marks if you circle, cross your tracks or step back between obstacles.
– In hand obstacles are judged walk/trot only.
– If attempting an obstacle in hand, both horse and handler must follow the course of the obstacle to score (eg you couldn’t stand halfway off a cliff to direct your horse along a narrow path, you would have to lead the way!).
– Led obstacles must be done with the rider leading either from headcollar/combi bridle and leadrope, or with reins over the horse’s head. If the horse wears a running martingale, a headcollar/combi bridle and rope MUST be used.
– If you knock a plank out of position it must be reset before you continue – you can either halt while your helper picks it up or jump off, correct it yourself and get back on – either keep hold of your horse or secure him safely while you do this.
– Friendly video person – please stand safely out of the way and film in landscape mode, you can zoom as needed, as long as I can see the whole of the horse and rider when they come through the planks each time.
– No video editing allowed! Submissions should be one continuous take and have sound on – I’ll fast forward through any plank resets.

There’s also the TREC Tuesday Training Club – only open to webinar participants. Submit up to 3 training videos for points each week.
